Innovation Central Perth named as a finalist in the 2021 Premier’s Science Awards! 

Innovation Central Perth has been acknowledged as a finalist in the 2021 Premier’s Science Awards in the Chevron Science Engagement Initiative of the Year category. These prestigious annual awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding scientific research and engagement taking place in Western Australia. The awards are an integral part of the WA government’s efforts to raise the profile of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in WA.

The Chevron Science Engagement Initiative of the Year recognises an initiative that has made an outstanding contribution to community awareness, interest and/or participation in science within WA. We are honoured to have been recognised as a finalist in this category and look forward to continue contributing to scientific research and engagement within WA.

The winners of the 2021 Premier’s Science Awards will be announced during National Science Week from 14 to 22 August.

STEM Outreach Discover Program Tour 

As part of Curtin’s STEM Outreach Discover Program, a group of year 9 and 10 high school students visited ICP to interact and engage with our Engineering Associates.

ICP Engineering Associates, Cameron KerrNikhil GujadhurAdil Khokhar and Harrison Outram from The School of Electrical Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences and Business Information Systems educated the students on Internet of Things (IoT) technology through various devices. From a brain controlled robot and smart home device integration, to a celebrity look-a-like machine learning application and cyber security penetration testing tool, the high school students were exposed to an array of IoT functions.

The Cross-Sector Technology Expo

Innovation Central Perth is inviting industry professionals, academics, students and those interested to visit our upcoming Cross-Sector Technology Expo.

The Cross-Sector Technology Expo is a free, catered event featuring trade displays from various companies spread across hydrogen, mining, energy, advanced manufacturing, health, spatial analytics and other industry sectors. This event is an opportunity for companies across these industries to showcase their core competencies across common technology-based innovation. In essence, the aim is to encourage and enable cross-sector collaboration to strengthen partnerships and facilitate the sharing of common goals, problems and solutions.

WA Health Hackathon Week

Registrations are now open to take part in the WA Data Science Innovation Hub (WADSIH) 2021 WA Health Hackathon Week!

This fantastic week-long event will bring together a diverse group of data professionals and students to explore innovative digital and data-driven solutions to real world healthcare challenges. With workshops, keynote speakers, upskilling sessions, sundowners and more, the week is jam-packed with innovation.

Collie Connect Workshop: IoT for your Business 

As part of the Collie Tech and Innovation series, Innovation Cluster are running an Internet of Things (IoT) for your business masterclass this August.

This is an amazing opportunity for businesses in the Collie region to get insights and learnings from experts in IoT and industrial sensing/networks, Prof Iain MurraySiavash Khaksar and Dr Yifei Ren from the Cisco-Curtin Centre for Networks and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department at Curtin University.

This workshop will explore the following: 

– What is IoT;

– The design process for an IoT system; and 

– Practical exposure to IoT components.

The workshop will be held on 19 August 2021 from 2.30pm – 4.30pm at Black Diamond Lodge and is open to all businesses across all industries, please register via the following link:

Collie Connect Workshop: Tech Forum & Fireside Tech Panel 

The last masterclass within Innovation Cluster‘s Collie Tech and Innovation series is a Tech Forum – Fireside Tech Panel. This free session is another great opportunity for businesses within the Collie region to get insights and learnings from successful tech industry innovators.

PAST EVENTS

Tech Up Late

As part of our new partnership with the City of Canning, we co-hosted our first event, ‘Tech Up Late’ last month.

Held within the City of Canning Library Makerspace, the workshop aimed to educate and inform the community on Internet of Things (IoT) technology. With over 40 attendees, the event was a great success and provided participants with some insight into the world of IoT. Innovation Central Perth’s Engineering Associates helped facilitate the event and demoed various IoT devices.

This event is just the first example of what’s possible with our new partnership with City of Canning! We look forward to facilitating and co-developing the workshops and innovation projects we have in the pipeline!


ICP Member Celebration Event

This month we held a sundowner event to celebrate the recent growth of our innovation ecosystem.

We have had a busy year growing and expanding our innovation community and to recognise this we brought some of our network together for some light refreshments and presentations. We heard from Andrew Bell our Executive Manager, Dan Marrable, Lead Data Scientist for the Curtin Institute for ComputationRyan Loxton, Discipline Lead – Mathematics and Statistics, Curtin UniversityAndrew Johnston, IoT Sales Specialist, Cisco, and Michael Stone, ICP Engineering Associate.

These representatives from our network all showcased some of the benefits of engaging and collaborating with our centre through exploring past projects and internship experiences.

Innovation Central Perth partners with a global leader in the Testing, Inspection and Certification sector, Applus+.

We are excited to be supporting a market leader with a key focus on bespoke and innovative inspection technologies. This collaboration will support Applus+ in their innovative approach to asset integrity management through technological development and digitalisation. We are eager to co-develop innovation projects aiming to further enhance the quality and safety of their clients’ assets and infrastructures.

Roborigger Official Launch

This month, Roborigger hosted an official launch to showcase their new manufacturing facility in WA!

As a member of Innovation Central Perth (ICP), we were excited to support Roborigger in this important milestone. Our Executive Manager, Andrew Bell attended the launch to celebrate this achievement. Honourable Don Punch MLA, who visited ICP earlier in the day, officially opened the facility and acknowledged the role of Innovation Central Perth in supporting Roborigger to develop their product to an exportable locally manufactured product.
