TADWA announced as a recipient of the 2021 Innovation Vouchers Program!
Technology for Ageing & Disability WA (TADWA) has been announced as a successful recipient of the 2021 Innovation Vouchers Program!
This fantastic initiative has enabled TADWA to catalyse a partnership with Innovation Central Perth (ICP) to support the commercialisation of technology for ageing and disability.
ICP look forward to providing TADWA access to a collaborative community of student talent, and professional and academic expertise in electronic, communications, network and software engineering to support the first stage of developing their bespoke product into a commercial solution. The engagement will also connect TADWA with academic expertise and student talent in the Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Strategy & International Business discipline through the Innovation Research Hub to complement technological testing and development with market analysis and business strategy.
This unique collaboration will build an expert team around TADWA to support their innovative idea and enable them to engage with Perth’s innovation ecosystem to achieve project success through customer discovery, feasibility testing and proof of concept.

Harvest Technology Group and Innovation Central Perth (ICP), a Cisco–Curtin collaboration, are partnering to conduct a Proof of Concept (PoC) study to integrate Harvest’s unique bandwidth optimisation technology with Webex by Cisco through leveraging its open Application Programming Interface (API).
The joint project aims to tackle one of the world’s biggest challenges; to extend global connectivity. More than half of our global population still doesn’t have access to high-speed internet, and more than 30% are without 4G coverage.
“We are really excited to work with ICP to see how we can support expanding the reach of the platform to more customers globally,” said Paul Guilfoyle, Harvest Technology Group Managing Director. “Our technology offers products like Webex by Cisco the ability to securely stream high-definition, real-time voice, video, and data over ultra-low bandwidth from anywhere in the world….”

The 2021 winners of the Premier’s Science Awards were announced at the awards ceremony on Monday 16 August 2021, held at the WA Museum Boola Bardip.
Congratulations to FIRST LEGO League WA (FLLWA), who won the Chevron Science Engagement Initiative of the Year Award. FLLWA is a collaborative project led by Curtin University and supported by community hubs around Western Australia. The project challenges teams of 9 to 16-year-old students to engage their minds and their communities to tackle STEM problems. This is a fantastic initiative that has engaged around 60,000 students, teachers, family members and local community members since its establishment in 2013.
We are honoured to have been nominated as finalists alongside FLLWA within this category which recognises initiatives that have made an outstanding contribution to community awareness, interest and/or participation in science in Western Australia.
Well done to FLLWA, very well deserved!

ICP Interns Present to the Vice-Chancellor
This month, Curtin University Senior Leadership presented to Vice-Chancellor, Harlene Hayne, at Innovation Central Perth.
Masters by Research candidate in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences Bita Borazjani, Data Science Bachelors student Monique Guest, and Master of Information Systems student from the School of Management and Marketing Nikhil Gujadhur, had the opportunity to present as part of Paul Nicholls‘, Research Partnerships presentation. Bita, Monique, and Nikhil, each presented on the projects they were involved with through ICP, showcasing what their industry challenge was, the steps they took to solve the challenge, the results of their actions, as well as the overall value they gained from the project which was an understanding of real industry challenges and employment opportunities.
These presentations were the highlights of the day and showcased the calibre of research at Curtin University. Bita, Monique, and Nikhil all received letters of appreciation from Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Professor Chris Moran thanking them for their inputs.

Cross-Sector Tech Expo Recap
Thank you to everyone that joined us this month at Innovation Central Perth for our Cross-Sector Technology Expo.
We were joined by over 100 attendees throughout the day who networked and made connections with our 13 exhibitors spread across numerous industry sectors. A big thank you to all of our speakers who gave insightful presentations on technology-based innovation within their respective industries, Andrew Bell, Stuart Midgley, Jean Ferreira, Michael Petrossian, Jasmine Muir, Hayley Mcgillivray Innovation and Collaboration Specialist and Mark de Castro.

WADSIH Health Hackathon
On Monday 16 August, WA Data Science Innovation Hub (WADSIH) kicked off the 2021 WA Health Hackathon Week with a launch event!
Held at Tank Stream Labs in the CBD, the event hosted a panel of expert speakers who discussed the technologies, opportunities and challenges for driving innovation within the WA healthcare sector. ICP’s Executive Manager, Andrew Bell and Engineering Associate, Nikhil Gujadhur, both gave presentations showcasing ICP’s past and future project involvement within innovative healthcare.
This fantastic event was just a snippet of the week-long Hackathon involving workshops, keynote speakers, upskilling sessions, sundowners and more.
