Project Title:

Automating Response Monitoring

Project Collaborators:

Defence

Investigating the use of machine learning to automate monitoring the behaviour of animals for the purpose of identifying early-warning signs of health conditions. Military working dogs are an important resource and therefore it is important to guarantee their safety and wellbeing when they are inside their kennels resting.

Approach

The ICP Summer Intern utilised CCTV video footage to identify the dog and its environment. The intern then classified all of the dog behaviours identified throughout the frames taken. The machine learning model developed is trained on thousands of annotated images of the kennels and taught to identify where certain objects are in the footage.

Outcome

01

Successfully utilized machine learning to track dogs and their environment through CCTV video footage and successfully classified basic behaviours. Outcome helps to reduce dog handlers’ tasks so that they may focus on training and developing the dogs.
