Automating Capture of Bodily Marking

Challenge

The aim of this project was to investigate and develop a method for officers to capture bodily markings of individuals as well as the ability to cross-reference these markings with known suspects.

Approach

The ICP Summer intern had to first meet with various precincts to fully scope the requirements for the identification of the suspects. They next met with the Gang Task Force to identify gang members and their markings. Once they had done this, they planned and started the development of an application which could satisfy the requirements of the project.

The project was successfully completed and an application was developed which could correctly identify and match bodily markings to suspects.

The project also won a 2021 Curtinnovation Award.
