Project Title:

Grain Sampling Automation

Project Collaborators:

CBH

The aim of this project was to develop a proof of concept to automate CBH’s sampling process. The prototype aimed to provide an end-to-end solution within CBH’s sample shed for wheat and barley to be collected as normal and automatically analysed once it enters the shed.

Approach

Firstly, the ICP Summer Intern needed to explore CBH’s current sampling process and investigate how an end to end autonomous solution would function. Once the subsystems within the new and old sampling processes were identified, the intern developed the new solution. A prototype was designed for the following processes: computer vision-controlled grain spear, sample distribution system and automated hectrolitre sampling device.

Outcome

01

A successful prototype was designed and built which automates CBH’s operations. This prototype has resulted in increased sampling speed and reduces the risk of injury to operators. The solution can be easily integrated into current and future operations and has created the foundation for a successful end to end automation of the grain sampling process.
