Join us as an ICA Digital Tranformation Intern Student
Innovation Central Adelaide (ICA) is an industry collaboration centre at Flinders University, dedicated to solving real-world challenges by connecting industry with students and academia.
Led by Cisco and Flinders University, ICA facilitates industry projects that provide students with hands-on experience, mentorship, and the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge to practical challenges. Through collaboration with Flinders academics, ICA staff, and Cisco engineers, student interns gain invaluable experience working on industry-driven projects across a diverse range of sectors, including engineering, data science, computing, marketing, cyber security, and more.
ICA Digital Transformation Intern Programs
ICA offers Digital Transformation Internship programs, designed to align with students’ studies and industry needs.
Summer Program: The Summer Program is an intensive 12-week experience where selected students work on real industry projects aligned with their degree and skills. Running from November to February, this program allows students to develop professional skills, work alongside industry professionals, and contribute to meaningful project outcomes.
On-Demand Program: The On-Demand Program runs from March to October and offers a flexible alternative during the academic year. Project durations vary based on client needs and students’ availability, making it a great option for those balancing coursework with industry engagement.
Selection Process
Students interested in ICA Digital Transformation Internships must complete an application form to join the ICA Talent Pool. Applications, resumes, and academic transcripts are reviewed regularly as new projects become available. Each project is scoped by the ICA team in collaboration with the client, and the selection process considers required skills and study disciplines. Successful candidates are invited for a meet-and-greet session at ICA, with some projects requiring a formal interview or short assessment.
Roles & Responsibilities
A Digital Transformation Intern’s responsibilities vary depending on the project. Tasks may include developing prototypes, creating dashboards, conducting feasibility studies, or designing marketing strategies. Expectations are set by the client and tailored to each student’s expertise. During the internship, students will:
- Arrange ongoing progress meetings with their academic supervisor.
- Submit weekly progress reports to ICA, the client, and their supervisor.
- Complete a final project closure report for the client.
- Deliver a final project presentation to the project team.
By the end of the program, ICA Digital Transformation Interns gain professional experience, develop industry connections, and build a portfolio of work that strengthens their resumes.
Work Locations
Interns may work at the client’s office, ICA at Flinders Tonsley campus, from home, or through a hybrid arrangement, depending on the project’s needs. Hot desks at ICA are available for students, providing a collaborative space with access to support from ICA staff.
Networking Opportunities
Beyond project work, students will have the chance to attend ICA-hosted workshops, presentations, and industry networking events. These events bring together students, academics, and industry leaders, offering valuable opportunities to expand professional connections.
The program concludes with a celebratory showcase event, recognising student achievements and providing another excellent opportunity to connect with industry professionals in a social setting.
