On Wednesday 30 April, Innovation Central Adelaide (ICA) made its debut at the Flinders University Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Industry Networker at Tonsley. The evening brought together industry representatives and Semester 2 and summer WIL students from software engineering, information technology, cybersecurity, computer science, mathematics, AI, and data analytics for a night of structured and informal networking.
ICA team members Alistair Macvicar and Tina Fotopoulos joined students for small group networking and informal drinks. It was an opportunity to meet students face to face, hear about their projects, and share what ICA has to offer for those ready to take their skills into industry.
“The best innovation happens when fresh thinking meets real challenges and right now, digital transformation is that challenge across industries, from healthcare and manufacturing to energy and beyond, said ICA’s Director, Dr Kathryn Anderson. “That’s exactly what our ICA Digital Transformation Student Internship program is designed to tackle, and it’s why being part of the Flinders WIL Networker matters to us.”
Through the ICA Digital Transformation Student Internship, students are matched with industry-facing projects and work alongside ICA tech leads and Cisco technology experts. ICA Interns don’t just observe: they contribute to rapid prototyping, data and AI projects, meeting innovation challenges through applied research for industry partners.
ICA is anchored by Flinders at Tonsley Innovation District, and the program is open to students from any university bringing together diverse perspectives from across the South Australian student community, backed by the expertise of Cisco and ICA. The domains are broad, from networking and cybersecurity, data science and AI, advanced manufacturing, and energy systems, to IoT and energy systems.
