Quantum technologies are set to extend sensing, computing and communications beyond anything we know now.
The Department for State Development held a targeted networker for international delegates to Australia’s premier quantum event, the Quantum Australia Conference (29-20 April), and ICA was in the room.
Director, Dr Kathryn Anderson presented a message to delegates that resonated across the conference’s theme of quantum translation: a direct, practical bridge between quantum research and real-world deployment is essential — and ICA is open for collaboration.
Flinders University’s quantum capability is broader and deeper than many realise. Rather than pursuing scale across every sub-field, Flinders has developed strategic niches aligned with national priorities from near-term quantum computing deployment to the materials and theory underpinning tomorrow’s hardware. ICA offers connection to this expertise for industry and research partners alike, spanning quantum computing and optimisation, software and operating systems, quantum materials and devices, quantum chemistry and simulation, fundamental quantum theory, and sensing and integration.
A standout example of the translation work already underway is Professor Apel Mahmud’s $1.45 million federally-funded project, supported by the Critical Technologies Challenge Program, applying quantum optimisation algorithms to energy management for remote and First Nations communities. Working with industry partners EfficientSee and Zeco Australian Energy Solutions, the project is a direct demonstration of quantum methods solving real infrastructure challenges.
For industry partners, ICA provides more than a research referral. The Flinders–Cisco alliance brings together academic depth with technology infrastructure and commercial experience making it well-suited for joint pilots, demonstrators, and translation projects across the quantum stack.
We are excited about Cisco’s recent announcement of its leading edge quantum technology and we’re leaning in to the potential.
Whether your organisation is exploring near-term quantum advantage, developing quantum-enabling materials and devices, or simply working out where quantum fits in your roadmap, ICA is ready to help scope that conversation.
