MasterTech 2025: Innovation in Action Across Australia and Singapore
Today, the national MasterTech 2025 competition officially begins – connecting seven Innovation Centrals across Australia and Singapore in a fast-paced digital challenge led by Cisco’s National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN) in partnership with Coles Group.
This week, student innovators will go head-to-head to design and prototype creative technology solutions that respond to Coles’ industry challenge:
“How might Coles use technology to make shopping more engaging and informed”
Each Innovation Central has assembled a high-performing student team to represent their region, combining creativity, technical capability, and industry insight.
Representing Innovation Central Brisbane is a powerhouse trio:
• Kailah Rushton and Long Le, from ICB and QUT Sport’s 2025 Semester 1 Sport Innovation ProtoComp, where their team created the ReVRlution Wheelchair prototype.
• Jasdev Bedi, from the 2023 Semester 2 Youth Research Forum ProtoComp in partnership with the Queensland Government Department of Environment and Science, where his team developed the BeeSafe bee health scanner.
Kailah Rushton

Jasdev Bedi

This week’s journey will see:
Monday: Coles launching the Provocation to all teams.
Thursday–Friday: Students collaborating remotely from their local Innovation Centrals, guided by Jeff Jones, Director of Innovation Central Melbourne.
Sunday: Teams flying to Melbourne to connect at La Trobe University.
Next week at Cisco Live Melbourne all teams will co-locate on the NIIN stand, building their prototypes live and pitching their final solutions at the Cisco Live Content Corner.
With Coles and Cisco mentors supporting teams throughout, MasterTech 2025 is more than a competition, it’s a showcase of how partnerships between industry, academia, and technology can accelerate innovation across the nation.
As part of the National Industry Innovation Network, Innovation Central Brisbane is proud to see our students representing Queensland on a national stage, building skills, and contributing to solutions that could shape the future of retail technology.
Follow along as Kailah, Long, and Jasdev take on the MasterTech challenge – from Provocation to Prototype!
