Launched in 2020, the National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN) is a collaborative vehicle for digitally transforming industries and accelerating innovation to generate large-scale economic and societal impact. Starting with 4 partners, the NIIN has grown and evolved to 11 partners nationwide, each actively addressing significant projects in areas such as critical infrastructure, sustainability, education, digital health, and hybrid work.

In March, as a member of the NIIN, Innovation Central Brisbane hosted the 2024 NIIN Research Chair Forum. The forum provides NIIN members the opportunity to establish key research priorities and focus areas, deepen industry connections, refine strategies, enhance student experiences, and explore new collaboration opportunities. Over two days we gathered 20 members, kickstarting the forum with a presentation from Cisco CTO Carl Solder who reported on industry trends and themes, before hearing updates from the Cisco Research Chairs, Innovation Central Directors and Alliance Partners across Australia.

The forum schedule was jam-packed, squeezing in a tour of Gardens Point campus (complete with a virtual cycling esports session led by World Champion Cyclist Kerrie Rosemond!), a visit to AXIOM Holographics and wrapping up the week celebrating the extraordinary women in technology at the Woman in Digital International Women’s Day Breakfast.

Looking forward to all being in the same room again soon!
