ICP in the International Ecosystem<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This month, ICP were excited to join a WA delegation to India for Umagine Chennai<\/a> 2023 – the largest Technology Summit in Asia. The event called for academic papers focused on Innovations and Intelligence for Computing and Technologies, where Curtin researchers submitted a technical paper<\/a> based on an ICP project with Southern Ports<\/a>, exploring the assessment of their breakwater walls.<\/p>\n

Nearly 200 papers<\/a> were submitted from universities around the world, with the top five asked to present at the conference. Our Director, Andrew Bell<\/a>, presented an overview of the project and Dr Petra Helmholz (lead author) gave a technical overview of the work via video connection. We are so proud to take out first prize amongst a range of incredible candidates.<\/p>\n

A huge congrats to the team behind this fascinating project!<\/p>\n

Andrew also appeared on two different panels, the first focusing on “Bilateral Innovation Collaboration to Drive Economic Growth” alongside WA Deputy Director General Linda Dawson, and the second focussed on “High Tech Skills in Australia” alongside Cecily Rawlinson from CyberWest and Alex Jenkins from WA Data Science Innovation Hub (WADSIH)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This event serves as an example of WA’s increasing engagement with local and international business, and we can’t wait to see where the future leads for our centre!<\/p>\n

Engaging the Future Talent Pool<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Over the last few weeks, ICP has had the opportunity to meet a variety of incredible students at two university-based events<\/p>\n

Mechelmech<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On the 22nd of March, ICP attended the annual, student-run Mechelmech event. In collaboration between student groups CMS, CSME, CRoC, IEEE, WiECD, URC, MLC and CEC, the event serves as the biggest networking opportunity of the year for Mechanical, Electrical, and Mechatronic engineering students.<\/p>\n

It was a privilege to be able to talk to so many enthusiastic students about the future of their careers and to discuss the next touchpoint on their journey.<\/p>\n

Curtin Open Day<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For the first time in our centre’s history, ICP were excited to attend the 2023 Curtin Open Day.<\/p>\n

It’s great to see so many young students considering tertiary study, and we hope we were able to inspire them with some of our best industry engagements. <\/p>\n

No matter the degree, we hope we can ensure future students that’s there’s an opportunity to excel their career with ICP.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Girls in ICT<\/h3>\n

We are excited to announce our upcoming Curtin-based event to celebrate international Girls in ICT Day!<\/p>\n

International Girls in ICT Day is a global movement encouraging girls and young women to pursue science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) education and careers. On the 27th of April, Cisco<\/a> will be hosting an insightful virtual broadcast, bringing together female leaders to explore climate change and the importance of bringing a creative approach to real-world problems.<\/p>\n

This year, Cisco will collaborate with ICP to further celebrate the occasion, inviting attendees from all backgrounds to attend our in-person workshop at Curtin University<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Attendees can expect insightful presentations, networking and free lunch!<\/p>\n

Driving Innovation in the Goldfields<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In collaboration with the WA School of Mines: Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering<\/a> (WASM), Innovation Central Perth are officially hosting our next Kalgoorlie based event – exploring the importance of innovation in the Goldfields!<\/p>\n

Learn about the variety of industry challenges that ICP have addressed, and how we can help businesses on their innovation journey. If you are a student – especially if you’re studying at Curtin University WASM – you are encouraged to attend in order to hear about how ICP can accelerate your career!<\/p>\n

INDUSTRY SHOWCASE<\/strong><\/h5>\n

East Metropolitan Health Services<\/h3>\n

Before our 2023 Research Award was announced at last month’s awards night, ICP were proud to showcase East Metropolitan Health Service<\/a> (EMHS) as a valued industry partner.<\/p>\n

Over the summer, ICP worked with EMHS to host three interesting projects, each delivering highly valuable outcomes. This included two data science projects, delivered by Palida Udomsirimas<\/a> who explored Early Sepsis Detection in Patients by using Machine Learning, and Lijala Shrestha<\/a> who utilised AI to monitor suitable patients to receive HIVE special care. Our other talented student, Dipanshu Pruthi<\/a>, worked on a marketing project that required the development of a marketing plan to promote the HIVE\u2019s services to the public.<\/p>\n

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Ramtin Ghassemifar – Frontier Automation<\/h3>\n

Another interesting ICP summer project was with Frontier Automation<\/a>, aiming to create a housing solution that can protect the pre-existing sensor system from natural elements. The 3D vision device was redesigned to increase durability while also saving space.

\nICP engaged Ramtin Ghassemifar<\/a>, who is currently in his fourth year at Curtin University, studying a Mechatronics Engineering and Computer Science double degree. With the support of Curtin University academic supervisors Siavash Khaksar<\/a>, Iain Murray AM<\/a>, Yifei Ren<\/a> and QIAN LI<\/a>, Ramtin was able to redesign the existing housing structure in a 3D visualisation platform for increased protection. Ramtin also created a web interface application to control the various protective mechanisms!<\/p>\n

We congratulate Ramtim in addition to all our summer students. Although ICP are transitioning into our on-demand program, we’re already beginning to anticipate the incredible projects that will populate our 2023-24 summer program.<\/p>\n
