Innovation Central Perth named as a finalist in the 2021 Premier’s Science Awards!\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Innovation Central Perth<\/a>\u00a0has been acknowledged as a finalist in the\u00a02021 Premier’s Science Awards<\/a>\u00a0in the Chevron Science Engagement Initiative of the Year category.\u00a0These prestigious annual awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding scientific research and engagement taking place in Western Australia. The awards are an integral part of the WA government’s efforts to raise the profile of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in WA.<\/p>\n

The Chevron Science Engagement Initiative of the Year recognises an initiative that has made an outstanding contribution to community awareness, interest and\/or participation in science within WA.\u00a0We are honoured to have been recognised as a finalist in this category\u00a0and look forward to continue contributing to scientific research and engagement within WA.<\/p>\n

The winners of the 2021 Premier\u2019s Science Awards will be announced during National Science Week from 14 to 22 August.<\/p>\n

ACTIVITIES<\/strong><\/h5>\n

STEM Outreach Discover Program Tour\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

As part of\u00a0Curtin\u2019s STEM Outreach Discover Program<\/a>, a group of year 9 and 10 high school students visited ICP to interact and engage with our Engineering Associates.<\/p>\n

ICP Engineering Associates,\u00a0Cameron Kerr<\/a>,\u00a0Nikhil Gujadhur<\/a>,\u00a0Adil Khokhar<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Harrison Outram<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0The School of Electrical Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Business Information Systems<\/a>\u00a0educated the students\u00a0on Internet of Things (IoT) technology through various devices. From a brain controlled robot and\u00a0smart home device integration, to a celebrity look-a-like machine learning application\u00a0and cyber security penetration testing tool, the high school students were exposed to an array of IoT functions.<\/p>\n

Collie Connect Workshop: IoT for your Business\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

As part of the Collie Tech and Innovation series,\u00a0Innovation Cluster<\/a>\u00a0are running an Internet of Things (IoT)\u00a0for your business masterclass this August.<\/p>\n

This is an amazing opportunity for businesses in the Collie region to get insights and learnings from experts in IoT and industrial sensing\/networks,\u00a0Prof Iain Murray<\/a>,\u00a0Siavash Khaksar<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Dr Yifei Ren<\/a>\u00a0from the\u00a0Cisco-Curtin Centre for Networks<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Electrical Engineering and Computer Science<\/a>\u00a0department at\u00a0Curtin University<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tech Up Late<\/strong><\/h3>\n

As part of our new partnership with the\u00a0City of Canning<\/strong><\/a>, we co-hosted our first event, ‘Tech Up Late’ last month.<\/p>\n

Held within the City of Canning Library Makerspace, the workshop aimed to educate and inform the community on Internet of Things (IoT) technology. With over 40 attendees, the event was a great success and provided participants with some insight into the world of IoT.\u00a0Innovation Central Perth<\/a>\u2019s Engineering Associates\u00a0helped facilitate the event and demoed various IoT devices.<\/p>\n

This event is just the first example of what\u2019s possible with our new partnership with City of Canning! We look forward to facilitating and co-developing the workshops and innovation projects we have in the pipeline!<\/p>\n

ICP Member Celebration Event<\/strong><\/p>\n

This month we held a sundowner event to celebrate the recent growth of our innovation ecosystem.<\/p>\n

We have had a busy year growing and expanding our innovation community and to recognise this we brought some of our network together for some light refreshments and presentations. We heard from\u00a0Andrew Bell<\/a>\u00a0our Executive Manager,\u00a0Dan Marrable<\/a>, Lead Data Scientist for the\u00a0Curtin Institute for Computation<\/a>,\u00a0Ryan Loxton<\/a>, Discipline Lead \u2013 Mathematics and Statistics,\u00a0Curtin University<\/a>,\u00a0Andrew Johnston<\/a>, IoT Sales Specialist,\u00a0Cisco<\/a>, and\u00a0Michael Stone<\/a>, ICP Engineering Associate.<\/p>\n

These representatives from our network\u00a0all showcased some of the benefits of engaging and collaborating\u00a0with our centre through exploring past projects\u00a0and internship experiences.<\/p>\n

Roborigger Official Launch<\/strong><\/p>\n

This month,\u00a0Roborigger<\/a>\u00a0hosted an official launch to showcase their new manufacturing facility in WA!<\/p>\n

As a member of\u00a0Innovation Central Perth<\/a>\u00a0(ICP), we were excited to support\u00a0Roborigger<\/a>\u00a0in this important milestone. Our Executive Manager,\u00a0Andrew Bell<\/a>\u00a0attended the launch to celebrate this achievement. Honourable\u00a0Don Punch<\/a>\u00a0MLA, who visited ICP earlier in the day, officially opened the facility and acknowledged the role of\u00a0Innovation Central Perth<\/a>\u00a0in supporting\u00a0Roborigger<\/a>\u00a0to develop their product to an exportable locally manufactured product.<\/p>\n
