TADWA announced as a recipient of the 2021 Innovation Vouchers Program!<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Technology for Ageing & Disability WA (TADWA)<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has been announced as a successful recipient of the 2021 Innovation Vouchers Program!<\/p>\n

This fantastic initiative has enabled TADWA to catalyse a partnership with\u00a0Innovation Central Perth<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(ICP) to support the commercialisation of technology for ageing and disability.<\/p>\n

ICP look forward to providing TADWA access to a collaborative community of student talent, and professional and academic expertise in electronic, communications, network and software engineering to support the first stage of developing their bespoke product into a commercial solution. The engagement will also connect TADWA with academic expertise and student talent in the Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Strategy & International Business discipline through the Innovation Research Hub to complement technological testing and development with market analysis and business strategy.<\/p>\n

This unique collaboration will build an expert team around TADWA to support their innovative idea and enable them to engage with Perth\u2019s innovation ecosystem to achieve project success through customer discovery, feasibility testing and proof of concept.<\/p>\n

Harvest and Innovation Central Perth tackle global connectivity<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Harvest Technology Group<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Innovation Central Perth (ICP)<\/a>, a\u00a0Cisco<\/a>–Curtin<\/a>\u00a0collaboration, are partnering to conduct a Proof of Concept (PoC) study to integrate Harvest\u2019s unique bandwidth optimisation technology with\u00a0Webex by Cisco<\/a>\u00a0through leveraging its open Application Programming Interface (API).<\/em><\/p>\n

The joint project aims to tackle one of the world\u2019s biggest challenges; to extend global connectivity. More than half of our global population still doesn\u2019t have access to high-speed internet, and more than 30% are without 4G coverage.<\/p>\n

2021 Premier’s Science Awards\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The\u00a02021 winners of the Premier’s Science Awards<\/a>\u00a0were announced at the awards ceremony on Monday 16 August 2021, held at the WA Museum Boola Bardip.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to\u00a0FIRST LEGO League WA (FLLWA)<\/a>, who won the\u00a0Chevron Science Engagement Initiative of the Year Award.\u00a0FLLWA\u00a0is a collaborative project led by\u00a0Curtin University<\/a>\u00a0and supported by community hubs around Western Australia. The project challenges teams of 9 to 16-year-old students to engage their minds and their communities to tackle STEM problems. This is a fantastic initiative that has engaged around 60,000 students, teachers, family members and local community members\u00a0since its establishment in 2013.<\/p>\n

We are honoured to have been nominated as finalists alongside FLLWA within this category which recognises\u00a0initiatives that have\u00a0made an outstanding contribution to community awareness, interest and\/or participation in science in Western Australia.<\/p>\n

ICP Interns Present to the Vice-Chancellor\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This month, Curtin University Senior Leadership presented to\u00a0Vice-Chancellor, Harlene Hayne<\/a>, at\u00a0Innovation Central Perth<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Masters by Research candidate in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences\u00a0Bita Borazjani<\/a>,\u00a0Data Science Bachelors student\u00a0Monique Guest<\/a>, and Master of Information Systems student from the School of Management and Marketing \u00a0Nikhil Gujadhur<\/a>, had the opportunity to present\u00a0as part of\u00a0Paul Nicholls<\/a>‘, Research Partnerships presentation. Bita, Monique, and Nikhil, each presented on the projects they were involved with through ICP, showcasing what their industry challenge was, the steps they took to solve the challenge, the results of their actions, as well as the overall value they gained from the project which was an understanding of real industry challenges and employment opportunities.<\/p>\n

These presentations were the highlights of the day and showcased the calibre of research at Curtin University. Bita, Monique, and Nikhil all received letters of appreciation from Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research,\u00a0Professor Chris Moran<\/a>\u00a0thanking them for their inputs.<\/p>\n

Cross-Sector Tech Expo Recap <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Thank you to everyone that joined us this month at Innovation Central Perth for our Cross-Sector Technology Expo.<\/p>\n

WADSIH Health Hackathon<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On Monday 16 August,\u00a0WA Data Science Innovation Hub (WADSIH)<\/a>\u00a0kicked off the\u00a02021 WA Health Hackathon Week<\/a>\u00a0with a launch event!<\/p>\n

Held at Tank Stream Labs in the CBD, the event hosted a panel of expert speakers who\u00a0discussed the technologies, opportunities and challenges for driving innovation within the WA healthcare sector. ICP’s Executive Manager,\u00a0Andrew Bell<\/a>\u00a0and Engineering Associate,\u00a0Nikhil Gujadhur<\/a>, both gave presentations showcasing ICP’s past and future project involvement within innovative healthcare.<\/p>\n

This fantastic event was just a snippet of the week-long Hackathon\u00a0involving workshops, keynote speakers, upskilling sessions, sundowners and more.<\/p>\n
