Innovation Central Perth (ICP) is an industry collaboration centre at Curtin University, dedicated to solving real-world challenges by connecting industry with students and academia.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Led by Cisco and Curtin University, ICP facilitates industry projects that provide students with hands-on experience, mentorship, and the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge to practical challenges. Through collaboration with Curtin academics, ICP staff, and Cisco engineers, student interns gain invaluable experience working on industry-driven projects across a diverse range of sectors, including engineering, data science, computing, marketing, cyber security, and more.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

ICP Internship Programs<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p><\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

ICP offers two internship programs: the Summer Program and the On-Demand Program, designed to align with students\u2019 studies and industry needs.<\/p>

Summer Program:<\/strong> The Summer Program is an intensive 12-week experience where selected students work on real industry projects aligned with their degree and skills. Running from November to February, this full-time program (37.5 hours per week) allows students to develop professional skills, work alongside industry professionals, and contribute to meaningful project outcomes.<\/p>

On-Demand Program:<\/strong> The On-Demand Program runs from March to October and offers a flexible alternative during the academic year. Project durations vary based on client needs and students’ availability, making it a great option for those balancing coursework with industry engagement.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Selection Process<\/b><\/span><\/p><\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Students interested in the summer program must complete an application form to join the ICP Talent Pool. Applications, resumes, and academic transcripts are reviewed regularly as new projects become available.\u00a0<\/span>Each project is scoped by the ICP team in collaboration with the client, and the selection process considers required skills and study disciplines. Successful candidates are invited for a meet-and-greet session at ICP, with some projects requiring a formal interview or short assessment.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Roles & Responsibilities<\/b><\/span><\/p><\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

An intern\u2019s responsibilities vary depending on the project. Tasks may include developing prototypes, creating dashboards, conducting feasibility studies, or designing marketing strategies. Expectations are set by the client and tailored to each student\u2019s expertise.\u00a0<\/span>During the internship, students will:<\/span><\/p>

\u2022 Arrange weekly progress meetings with their academic supervisor.<\/span><\/p>

\u2022 Submit weekly progress reports to ICP, the client, and their supervisor.<\/p>

\u2022 Complete a final project closure report for the client.<\/p>

\u2022 Deliver a final project presentation to the project team.<\/p>

By the end of the program, interns gain professional experience, develop industry connections, and build a portfolio of work that strengthens their resumes.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Interns may work at the client\u2019s office, ICP, from home, or through a hybrid arrangement, depending on the project\u2019s needs. Hot desks at ICP are available for students, providing a collaborative space with access to support from ICP staff.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Networking Opportunities<\/b><\/span><\/p><\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Beyond project work, students will have the chance to attend ICP-hosted workshops, presentations, and industry networking events. These events bring together students, academics, and industry leaders, offering valuable opportunities to expand professional connections.<\/span><\/p>

The program concludes with a celebratory awards night, recognizing student achievements and providing another excellent opportunity to connect with industry professionals in a social setting.<\/p>
